According to this blog post, kolkata high court (or is it still calcutta high court) asked all the ISPs in India to block 104 domains which have been found to distribute music illegally. This latest ruling is a follow-up of sorts in a string of such verdicts to ban domains allegedly hosting pirated content.
The ISPs have been given 36 hours to comply, by either blocking domain/IP addresses or by using Deep Packet Inspection to ban the offending URLs.
Interestingly Saregama CEO Apurv Nagpal said in a recent interview that he would rather want these sites to pay a license fee rather than getting shut down, because this is a legitimate flourishing business.
This fight is getting quite interesting!!
