The GSM association is assembling a team of technical experts to prepare embedded SIM cards for cellphones and other other devices such as cameras and MP3 players. The team is an amalgamation of various technical experts, who have inside information on practically every major carrier worldwide. Apple was also rumoured to be working on something similar with Gemalto for their next iPhone.
Days numbered?
According to various sources, an analysis of every major market is due in January 2011, while devices based on the technology are expected to show up somewhere in 2012. While all this is still on the drawing board and no concrete information is present, it does signify quite a major shift for the telecommunications scene.
