IPC(indian penal code) does not support the distribution of adult content;though viewing adult content itself is not a crime. In short,if you are caught with a CD/DVD full of porno and you confesses that you created it to give a friend then you committed a crime but if you are claiming that its only for your viewing, you are to be freed immediately;this is actually another way of income for those corrupt police officers. Now because distribution is not legal,IT ministry of india declared this statement after ICANN decision
India, along with many other countries from the Middle East and Indonesia, opposed the grant of the domain in the first place, and we would proceed to block the whole domain, as it goes against the IT Act and Indian laws.So india is planning to join the bandwagon of Indonesia and saudi arab.Though these porno sites at present are using .com domain and this is not blocked. This ".xxx" would actually protect consumers and by refusing to accept it india is taking two steps backwards. In our country people like "pandher"(the famous 'nithari' killer) is let to go scot-free but attempts like these are obstructed. Its very unfortunate.Sex is the earliest industry in the history of mankind and its not possible to stop it.It'd be much better if india rather take the necessary steps to control it;but apparently that is not the case here.
