Google started summer of code,2011 on 29th march.This is a project in which students get stipend for contributing to open-source community.They have to provide codes which will in turn give them an idea about the real world coding.
Here is the project site.All ready more than 175 projects are submitted.The last date of the submission is 8th april.
This is a great idea which helps google to remain true to its motto-don't be evil
